What John is saying is that by being a basketball player is not as more important as who you are in person. So basketball player or not it isn't as important as who you are as a person. It doesn't matter if you are good at playing basketball but what matters is who you are. So when John would coach his students he would tell them that by being a basketball player doesn't matter but what you are in person doesn't matter . Basically he was letting them know that they should be ctr persons because it only brings out good in you.It doesn't matter if you are famous or not what matters is who you are. Just do what you know is right because what matters most of all is who you are.

If we were to do or say a lie it will be honored and everyone will know you has the person that told that lie. This is why we need to always choose the right and never tell lies because that is not a good thing to do.
